The Dumb Few

Brittle reeds, bees
droning unseemly—

up scales to eleven

It’s true I’d wake
my petty speck
of earth yet

rolling to the sun

& hills remind me
less of Iowa, more of
masculinity,

                I mean
dullards & sunlight,
combs cleft in honey
