Instructions for Being an Inspiration
After the pig ran away
my grandpa fixed the pigpen
and when I asked
why he said oink oink and got
cancer and threw things
at my grandma for two years
and died. And then the pig
came back and we said
wow, holy fuck, a second chance,
a miracle, who would’ve thought?

The ghosts of my
ancestors are super
thin because we
forgot to feed them
for the ten years
we lived in America
getting PhDs or
most improved
behavior awards
or meningitis. It’s
a good thing
they’re such
a resilient bunch,
death making them
even more immune
to starvation and
losing face. Now
that they aren’t
bound to living
in their own crumpled
farming fishing
bodies all the time,
they keep showing up
at Incheon airport—
who can blame them?
Or me, for that matter,
it’s the most
beautiful airport
in the whole world—
duty-free shopping,
pat downs, free
peanuts, and then
we’re ready to go places
and take selfies
or ride roller coasters
sipping warm
flat coh-kah-ko-la.
